Speakeasy

Production team communication application

Speakeasy team communication application interface

Overview

Speakeasy is a team communication application organised around topics rather than traditional channels. Each conversation has its own space for the relevant people, messages, files, calls and follow up, offering a different structure to platforms such as Slack and Microsoft Teams.

I worked on Speakeasy professionally for about a year as part of the development team, alongside my ongoing work on Power Tools.

My Work

I worked primarily on the mobile web experience, including responsive layouts and custom drawer interfaces for navigating the application on smaller screens.

I also contributed to testing and QA across the product and built voice note functionality during an internal development hackathon.

Voice Notes

The voice note feature lets users record audio directly within the application.

Audio is captured in the browser and processed client side using WebAssembly to transcode recordings to MP3 for use within the application.

Mobile Application UI

Speakeasy has a complex application interface rather than a conventional responsive website, so the desktop interaction model did not always translate directly to smaller screens.

My work included adapting layouts and navigation for mobile and building dedicated drawer interfaces where a mobile specific approach made more sense.
